Plastic and Cosmetic Operations / Nose Correction
What is a nose correction?
A nose correction can be used to remove a bump in the nose, make the width of the nose smaller, lift or shorten the tip of the nose making the overall shape of the nose smaller and narrower than before. We also correct problems with the septum which are almost always inevitable.

What happens in an initial consultation?
The nose is examined: the bump's appearance, width of the nose, the cartilige forming the left and right alar wings of the nose etc. This is discussed in depth with the patient. We explain the anatomy and what can be done as well as show photos. 99% of operations are done from the inside right so that scarring is not visible. Most of the time the fact that there was any kind of intervention is invisible except of course for the positive changes.

Who is a good candidate for a nose correction?
This is an option for anyone who is not happy with their nose in some way. Perhaps there is a bump or there is something wrong with the tip.

What happens during a nose correction operation?
Nose correction is performed under general anesthesia. Small supplementary injections are made in the nasal areas where incisions are to be made or inside the nose. The alar wings of the nose are reduced and partially removed, or the three angularis cartilage and the birdge of the nose are reduced. A bump in the bone forming the nose is chiseled away. The existing lateral bone is mobilized in order to make the bridge shorter and smaller. After the operation, a cast is put on the newly reshaped nose. The nose is tamponated from inside out for 36 hours following the procedure. This helps support the bone and nasal septum.
The cast is removed after eight days. In some cases another cast is needed to stabalize the nose. Otherwise the old cast is transformed and worn at night for 4 to 6 weeks.
Back
How safe is the treatment?
The nose is swollen for 3 to 6 months following the operation. The patient has to wait until swelling has subsided to see the final results. It is at this time that success of the operation can be 100% confirmed.
Back
How long does the operation last?
The actual operation takes 45 minutes. The operation is safe. The only problem is swelling, which can affect results. The anesthesiologist can be of service here by providing a decongestant that makes swelling subside quicker.
Back
How bad is the pain during and after the operation?
There is normally no pain.
Back
Does an inpatient stay have to be scheduled?
An inpatient stay of one day under observation and an examination after 36 hours are necessary.
Back
When will I be fit and ready to get back to daily life again?
The patient is usually back on the feet and ready to work after 7 to 8 days when the cast is removed. The nose is sensitive for about 6 weeks and requires protection. The small bone construction made during the operation should never be destroyed.
Back
What precautions should be taken after the operation?
The patient should not undertake any activities that could cause the nose trauma for 6 weeks following the operation.
Back
Can nose correction always be done?
Nose correction is almost always possible. It is not for everyone or for any price. You could say that it is possible 95% of the time.
Back
Is there any visible scarring?
There is no visible scarring after the operation because we operate from within the nose. Scarring on the mucous membrane is not visible.
Back
Are there any risks or side effects?
There is a risk that the results are not as planned. It is rare but can occur. There are no known side effects.
Back
What type of anesthesia is used and will I have to stay overnight?
The operation is done under general anesthesia.
Back
Can I see before and after photos?
Before and after photos are available.
