The volume of the breasts is often subjected to fluctuations because of pregnancy, age, and hormonal changes. Over the years the mammary glands and the volume of fat in the breasts tends to deminish. This results in sagging and hanging of the breasts. For many women this is linked to a feeling of loss of self-worth.

Breasts are composed primarily of glands and fatty tissue. During a breast reduction operation a desired amount of this tissue is removed and then the remaining mass reshaped. The skin around the breast is also reduced and the nipples repositioned.

Despite technological advancement, scarring remains out of the hands of the doctor. No matter how much is spent on technology scarring remains unaffected. Scarring depends almost entirely on the genetics of the indivudal patient. Scars surround the areola and continue down the breast in a straight line down to the crease between the underside of the breast and the chest. Feeling in the breast usually remains uneffected.

Our perfect technique is a precondition for cleaner scars but this cannot be guaranteed.

While breast implantation does not normally leave any visible scars and the procedure takes approximately one hour, the breast lift is much more complicated and lasts around two hours. If the scars heal correctly after the lift, they will not be a problem.

Sometimes a breast lift is combined with an augmentation if the patient so desires. This is not normally the case as most patients seeking a lift have breasts that are too big and saggy requiring the reduction, tightening and repositioning of the nipples involved in a breast lift.

After the procedure a one or two day inpatient stay is usually required. The redondrain is removed 24 hours after the surgery and bandages are changed after 48.

Anti-inflammatory medication as well as antibiotics are to be taken from the second to eighth postoperative day to bring the swelling down as fast as possible.

The bandages are changed and the stitches removed after eight to ten days. A sports bra is worn for a further four weeks. A scar reduction cream is to be used for six weeks following the operation.

A breast examination is done after six months during which there are almost always a positive results. Should there be a problem with scaring, there are treatments available in our Beauty-Lounge that can improve them.
